The Project – We Prommised More Detail

by Tom Glover on Aug.05, 2009, under Cool Things, Game Servers, Website News

The project were are currently working on and aiming to launch in November is a Linux game server, which  you may say, that’s been done before, well it has.

The Current market for renting private Game Servers is already saturated, so is the plain Web Hosting market, this is where we aim to be different. We aim to provide a very similar service to the current game server rental, whilst giving it a small twist, where by each server “renter” gets gets there own virtual server with only that game on it and a simple web interface to manage it. again you will say that is already out there, so what’s different, i hear you ask. Our service will not only be individual servers, that’s it, they will also be for rent by the day, which is a completely new concept in the game server rental market.

As the technology progresses we will be able to cut that time down to the hour, with other added features such as Automated Reboots for a failed server, Real Time Server Scaling, allowing you to cope with demand, on your game server. All this won’t cost as much as you think it will for you the consumer, with no monthly contracts to hold the service you will be charged mere pennies an hour to run your game server, with full root control of it, if you wish.

Payment will be via a credits system, with credits equalling a set number of hours each, depending on the server size. For example our smallest server may cost 0.25 credits per hour to run, where as our next one up would be 0.5 per hour. This Credits system gives you the flexibilty to spend as much as, or as little as you want when you sign up, of course the more you by the cheaper it will be.

We also may include an off-line payment solution to allow users without a credit or debit card to still be able to use our service. This feature will be powered by PayOffline, which is supported by Alliance & Leicester in the UK.  This methods will have a minimum credit amount, compared to on-line payment methods as well as the delay in getting your credits, as payment has to be made over a counter and is not instantly recognised in the system.

SaaS – Cloud Computing – Micro-Blogging

by Tom Glover on Aug.02, 2009, under Clouds, Web Related

1: SaaS

Software-as-a-service keeps growing and growing and growing, experts and analysts say, with many large companies adding SaaS components to on-premise software installations. Salesforce.com, considered the bellwether of the SaaS industry, reported record revenue of $305 million, up 23% from 2008, in its fiscal first quarter ended April 30, 2009. SaaS is winning favor because it’s often 20% cheaper than managing a non-premise application, Hinchcliffe says. “SaaS is on track to be the dominant model for software by 2012. There are still lots of security issues, but the economics are definitely there.” The other sweeping advantage is the flexibility that companies gain by rapidly adding new functionality. “The paradigm shift is where you can go acquire a piece of what you need and assemble that into the software that you already own,” Wilson says.
